The Voice of Empowerment

Introduction
This week, we are focusing onthe 'voice' and experience of empowerment. We want to know how our participants feel.

Our objectives are that you will be able to:

  • Understand the links between consultation and empowerment;
  • Hear the voice of young people who were involved in what they have identified as an empowering process;
  • Learn from the practical experiences of CLD workers in a consultation context.

Task 5

Rather than asking you to do another task this week we thought we'd give you some more time to do Task 4 from last week.
Please visit the WikiProjects page for details on last week's task.

We've also created a new category in the Google Group discussion forum for you to discuss this week's topic Week 5 The Voice of Empowerment

Presentation

On Monday 10th of December at 2:00pm Jodie Garrow and Fraser Thomson will provide a presentation describing the Mearns Youth Consultation,
a local youth led community research project that took place in rural Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The youth consultation was an empowering process, as identified by the young people themselves. Jodie and Fraser recently attended an international research conference in Canterbury
CARN International Conference to facilitate a multi-media workshop. This was the first time that research participants have been invited to attend this prestigious conference.

Jodie and Fraser are both members of the Mearns Youth Forum, Fraser is ninteen years old, a volunteer youth worker who currently attends Aberdeen College and Jodie is eighteen and has recently started at the Robert Gordon University. They will be delivering a presentation for us alongside Kirsty Forrester a Community Learning and Development worker at the Mearns Community Centre and will be taking questions at the end of the presentation. [The first video is the recording of the seminar; the second video is related to what they spoke about]

[Note: the discussions in Disqus remain open to contribution at any time, so you don't have to limit your contribution to only during the broadcast.]
